Activities of the Churches and Religious Societies Department
Churches and Religious Societies Department performs tasks arising from the substantive jurisdiction of the Ministry of Culture as the central state administration body for the affairs of churches and religious societies (according to § 8 of Act No. 2/1969 Coll., On the Establishment of Ministries and Other Central State Administration Bodies of the Czech Republic, as amended).
Within its competence, the Churches and Religious Societies Department in particular:
• elaborates long-term concepts of organizing the relationship between the state and churches and religious societies and concepts of realizing religious freedom in the Czech Republic,
• ensures the disbursement of funds to the affected churches and religious societies in accordance with the Act on Property Settlement with Churches and Religious Societies and collects accounting data on matters issued by liable persons,
• within the state subsidy policy towards non-governmental non-profit organizations, provides funds for important cultural activities of churches and religious societies and for religious and religious-cultural activities of associations,
• decides on the registration of churches and religious societies, on the registration of associations of churches and religious societies, on the registration of changes in data on registered churches and religious societies and associations of churches and religious societies and on the cancellation of registration of churches and religious societies and associations of churches and religious societies,
• decides on the granting of authorization to exercise special rights of churches and religious societies and on its revocation,
• registers legal entities established by a registered church and religious society in accordance with the Act on Churches and Religious Societies, registers changes in data on these legal entities and cancels their registration,
• maintains the Register of Registered Churches and Religious Societies, the Register of Associations of Churches and Religious Societies and the Register of Registered Legal Entities as part of the basic registers of economic entities and ensures the publication of publicly accessible parts of these registers on the Ministry's website.
